HESCO came into existence when the Area Electricity Board (AEB) Hyderabad was replaced by the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) in 1998. The change came as part of a wider restructuring of the WAPDA power sector, to create the company to ensure reliable power supply in the southern Sindh region apart from Karachi. Hesco is a WAPDA-owned company that took over the responsibilities of the old AEB Hyderabad to improve power distribution and customer service.
HESCO offers different electricity rates depending on whether customers are protected or non-protected. Protected customers benefit from lower rates, such as Rs 7 per unit for up to 50 units, while non-protected customers face higher rates, ranging from Rs 22 to Rs 65 per unit based on consumption levels. HESCO’s administrative structure covers 12 districts in Sindh with a network of operational, construction, and maintenance divisions, all aimed at providing consistent electricity supply and exceptional service.
Here is the list of the 12 districts covered by HESCO:
The company has organized its operations into four main circles Hyderabad, Laar, Mirpurkhas, and Nawabshah each managing multiple divisions and sub-divisions to ensure effective service delivery. Specifically, HESCO’s structure includes 17 operational divisions and 72 sub-divisions. This extensive network helps HESCO maintain a steady and reliable supply of electricity across its diverse service area, focusing on both customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
From July 1, 2024, the federal government of Pakistan has introduced new electricity tariff rates, which have increased from the previous rates. The new rate is Rs 14.16 per unit, up from Rs 10.06 per unit. For unprotected consumers using 1-100 units per month, the tariff will rise by 43%, moving from Rs 16.48 to Rs 23.59 per unit.
The government has changed the tariff from time to time so for the latest tariff information please Click here:
The HESCO online Bill Calculator 2024 is user user-friendly tool with the help of this you can estimate your current month’s electricity bill online by entering the number of units consumed. This tool reflects the updated unit prices and tariff rates as of July 2024, including all relevant taxes and charges like TV fees, FPA, and N.J. surcharges.
The calculator differentiates between protected and unprotected tariff rates. If you consume less than 200 units, you’ll fall under the protected category with lower rates. Consuming more than 200 units places you in the unprotected category with higher rates.
For accurate billing, you should have your previous month’s bill to check meter readings and tariff rates. Subtract last month’s reading from this month’s to determine consumption, then apply the tariff rates and add any additional charges. The calculator provides a close estimate, though actual bills may vary slightly due to factors like meter reading discrepancies and tariff adjustments.

For HESCO, peak hours are:
Period | Peak Hours |
April to October | 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM |
November to March | 6 PM to 10 PM |
During this time demand on the power grid is at its peak, which makes electricity more expensive. If you use less electricity during these periods you can save your cost.
